Celebrity Injustice

Ξ May 27th, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Film & Television |

If nothing else comes out of the Phil Spector trial (say that rarist of rarities, a celebrity conviction), at least the chance of justice being served in cases involving famous people should increase. The judge’s ruling that Henry Lee, criminalist to the stars, recovered a piece of evidence that he failed to present to the prosecution could have far-reaching consequences. His reputation scarred, it will be easy for future prosecutors to impeach his credibility. Assuming Lee did act as he has been accused, one must wonder in what other ways he has obstructed justice in the past–could O.J. have been convicted? We’ll never know. And even if this is his first mistake, it’s a big one. The damage is most likely irreparable. Celebs will just have to find a new morally-challenged magician to keep them from paying their debts to society.

Television Limbo

Ξ May 15th, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Film & Television |

Television… No, I’m not talking about all the series and pilots waiting to hear if they’re picked up for the 2007-2008 season. Instead, I’m referring to “how low can you go”. Television has always pushed boundaries, some for better, some for worse. Recently, however, the levels to which reality and pseudo-news have sunk are truly abysmal, with no redeeming qualities at all. The latest? The proposed Joey Buttafuoco-Amy Fisher reunion special/series. How despicable can we get? Does anybody honestly think this is a good idea? Is making a quick buck so important as to throw out all concept of societal good taste? Fortunately the O.J. Simpson “If I Had Done It…” special was axed due to public uproar, and his publisher paid the price. If only the same would happen here.
